Our aim is to minimise and reduce the  impact on the environment of constructing buildings and infrastructure. We continuously improve our practices for the long-term sustainability of our business, the communities in which we work and the environment.

We have targeted three key environmental ambitions;

  • Acting for the climate
  • Optimizing resources supporting the circular economy
  • Protecting natural environments

We apply a creative, innovative approach to  these ambitions ensuring we can deliver tangible benefits including reducing carbon, improving biodiversity, minimizing material, energy and water usage, and cutting out waste in all its forms.

We work with our supply chain to increase reuse and recycling, avoiding landfill and support circularity through end of life decisions and procurement. Through collaboration and education, alongside our supply chain we manage energy consumption and performance reducing greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption.

We set ourselves challenging targets that drive performance and match the ambitions of our clients in order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero Carbon, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets:

  • A long-term science-based target to reach net-zero value chain GHGs emissions by no later than 2050
  • A reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030
  • A reduction in Scope 3 emissions by at least 20% by 2030
  • Interim near term science-based targets across all relevant scopes and in line with the criteria and recommendations of the Science Based Targets initiative

We assess each project through the One Click Life Cycle Assessment tool. This allows us to select materials and equipment which have better environmental credential, including reduced embodied carbon, higher proportions of recycled materials and those that comply with responsible, certified sourcing schemes. For example, we procure timber from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) approved sources.

The expertise of our world-class Technology Centre enables the development of structures and processes that make more efficient use of energy and natural resources while reducing emissions and waste.
