You will work in an agile way depending on the demands of the role, working from our office in Widnes, from home as well as attending customer meetings, site visits and project meetings across the North West.
Reporting to our Framework Manager, the successful candidate will demonstrate true leadership, managing the delivery of successful bids, leading internal teams and producing highly persuasive and innovative qualitative responses to the highest quality, ensuring our customers’ expectations are met and, wherever possible, exceeded.
With a proven track record of successful projects, you will be responsible for leading two-stage tenders for projects ranging in value from £5m to £100m across a range of sectors, including Public Sector, Education, Leisure, Commercial and Healthcare.
As Bid Manager, you will drive the winning bid strategy by devising the most innovate, efficient and economically advantageous solution to delivery tender requirements, managing the tender, bid and negotiation processes on a range of projects from a deliverability/buildability perspective, win work and successfully transfer projects to the operational team.
The role:
- Secure new business opportunities through strong bid management.
- Coordinating inception workshops with our customers and use your proven listening skills to ensure we truly understand our customers 'Why?', gaining vital information that will enable your bid team to go the extra mile.
- Formulate and agree bid strategy with senior management to secure profitable orders.
- Developing and incorporating project strategies to achieve the company’s sustainability objectives.
- Coordinate resources with technical and support departments to complete the bids and secure the projects.
- Manage the preparation and validation of tenders and create, drive and manage a bid winning strategy.
- Convert work winning opportunities into profitable contracts.
- Manage the full process, including relationship building with clients, achieving preferred bidder status and bring the projects to contract close.
- Understand and challenge technical documents relating to design, build, legal and financial aspect to maximise opportunities.
- Attend and lead meetings with the design teams during the bid preparation process.
- Take ownership of all elements of the tender response for new opportunities in the production of documents for bids and PQQ submissions within budget to agreed timescales.
- Deliver the bid strategy including solution development, writing bid text, costing and cost model review.
- Produce management reports including documentation bids.
- Manage negotiations and commercial discussions through all stages on the process to commercial close.
- Deliver and write highly persuasive qualitative bid responses and lead in question reviews and development.
The person:
- Proven bid management skills, ideally within a Tier 1 contractor environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to influence an audience.
- Strong analytical and financial management skills.
- Previous experience in preparing and winning tenders.
- A good team player and communicator who is able to work with all levels of the organisation.
- Previous experience of managing bid services within the construction and engineering industry is highly desirable.
Essential and Desirable Criteria

Desirable skills:
- A construction related degree.
- CIOB membership or equivalent • Experience in writing/managing bids. • Experience of working on bids in a variety of construction sectors
